THE ENNEAGRAM PERSONALITY SYSTEM

The Enneagram Personality System is a typology of personality types that has ancient roots in many world traditions and is currently being studied and authenticated in light of modern psychology and neurobiology. The Enneagram of Personality Types provides a system for self-understanding and personal and spiritual development. It helps us understand ourselves and others to facilitate healthy relationships. It improves our communication with others by helping us recognize our core motivations and the core motivations of others.

The “Narrative Tradition” encompasses listening to guided panel interviews of individuals of each Enneagram type as they share their personal stories. In the process, these representatives reveal their particular inner worlds and realities. This demonstrates the type, their core motivation, and their inner struggles increasing our understanding of, and compassion for, ourselves and others.

Learning the Enneagram helps you identify your own type of personality and the type of others by providing examples and exercises. By observing how you think, feel, and behave, you begin to see the world in more realistic terms. Learning to recognize your automatic thought patterns, feelings, and sensations is key. The goal is to understand and transform your own personal reactions for reducing stress, better self-management and improving your effectiveness in relationships.

The Enneagram helps us understand the personality “box” we are in so we can get out of the limitations that “box” provides. It facilitates discovering who we really are and what we're capable of beyond our habitual ways of thinking and behaving.

More about the Enneagram...

The word “ennea” is Greek for nine and “gram” means model or figure. The Enneagram is a diagram or star with nine points representing the nine personality patterns. Each of these nine patterns, or ways of perceiving the world, is based on a specific set of underlying motivations, or filters, that determine how we think, feel and perceive reality.

There are number of Web resources and books that provide detailed information about the Enneagram Personality System. Keep in mind that the Narrative Tradition, using guided panel interviews and other interactive exercises based upon participants' direct experience, is the most effective way to explore, learn and teach the Enneagram Personality System.
